Where it all started....

The year was 1998 in the month of September.  I had recently transferred High Schools to a nearby local high school but I wanted to venture back to my original high school to enjoy their homecoming dance.  I had to transfer because I had a baby at the end of my Junior year and no longer had enough credits to graduate on time.    The new high school allowed me to take night classes and such as to allow graduation.  But I missed my old friends quickly and decided to head off to Homecoming.
I had never been to a dance before where I actually danced with somebody.  I was the kind of girl who would go to the other room to play Jenga and just listen to the music down the hall back in Junior high.  While I "dated" a lot of guys I never was seeing anyone who was old enough to take me to one of the dances.
I didn't have a date when I went to homecoming.  When I got there my friend Erin asked me if I ever talked to a guy named Immortal on LUMA.  Luma was a Ludington, Mason County Michigan small chat line set up through the local library which connected area high school students as some of our first exposures to social media. Indeed I recognized his user ID but I had never met him.
